Sometimes Firefox will ask if a website can show notifications. You click Allow once — usually while trying to swat away the pop-up — and next thing you know, you’re being told you’ve “won an iPhone” at 2am. How lovely.
Here’s how to show those scammy sites the door:
✅ Step-by-step on Windows / Mac
1 - Open Firefox
2 - Click the three lines (hamburger menu) in the top-right corner
(yes, that’s really its name)
3 - Go to Settings
4 - Select Privacy & Security on the left
5 - Scroll down to the Permissions section
6 - Next to Notifications, click Settings…
Now you’ll see a list of sites that can send notifications. Look out for:
Ones you don’t recognise
Ones that look a bit too excited about viruses
7 - For each offender, select it and choose:
Block – silences it permanently
Remove Website – forgets the permission so it must ask again
(and you can decline with the smugness of a thousand suns)
🧹 Optional Clean-up
Stop future pestering altogether:
Still in the Notifications box, untick:
“Block new requests asking to allow notifications”
(or tick it if you want to block new requests… Firefox is quirky!)
This means:
✅ No more pop-ups asking to send notifications
⚠️ But legitimate sites like Facebook, Outlook, or WhatsApp Web won’t be able to ask either — so choose wisely!
🧑🔧 Still seeing weird pop-ups?
You might also need to:
Run your antivirus (obviously! 😉)
Check for suspicious Firefox add-ons:
Menu > Add-ons and themes > Extensions
Remove anything you didn’t install on purpose
(“Super Fun Free Spin Casino Pro”, I’m judging you)
🎉 Done!
