Latest macOS at time of writing: macOS Big Sur (11.6)
Now that you have set up your brand new, fancy mailbox to send and receive emails from your very own domain – you probably want to add it to your Mac! This guide will walk you through the necessary steps to add that mailbox to properly send and receive mail on your iOS device (iPhone/iPad), so that you’re always connected wherever you have a data connection.
If you've never added an email account to the Mail app on your Mac - on the first launch of the app you will be asked to add an account. You can follow the instructions below.
If you already use the Mac Mail app for other email accounts, you'll need to click on 'Mail' on the top menu bar, and then select 'Add Account'.
- A box will appear to 'Choose a Mail account provider...' - select 'Other Mail Account...' and click on 'Continue'.
- Complete the fields on the next screen as show below:
- Name: (Your name, this will be shown to your email recipients when you send them an email)
- Email Address: (Your email, in full e.g. hello@blackowl.co.uk)
- Password: (Your password)
- Click on 'Sign In' and allow the connection to complete. You may get an error at the bottom in red; "Unable to verify account name or password." - this is okay.
- You will now be able to enter the username, incoming and outgoing mail server details, as shown below:
- Username: (Your full email address)
- Incoming Mail Server: imap.stackmail.com
- Outgoing Mail Server: smtp.stackmail.com
- You can click on 'Sign In', and allow the Mac Mail app to sign you in.
- A box should then appear with the option to sync apps with your IMAP email account, you get the choice of Mail and/or Notes. For most customers, you will only need to sync Mail. Once you have made your selection, click on 'Done'.
- Your new email account should now be connected to Mac Mail, allow a few minutes for any existing emails in the mailbox to be downloaded - however you can use your account immediately.
We would recommend sending a test email to and from your newly-added mailbox from another email address just to make sure everything is working as you expected.
If you have any problems getting connected, please do not hesitate to get in contact with us and we’ll be happy to help.
