Staying safe online seems to be becoming an ever increasingly difficult task, but it is really important. With more and more services and businesses offering online options - and in some cases exclusively - it's important you know how to protect yourself.

 

This support article will help to guide you and point you in the right direction of useful resources to help you with your own cyber security at home and/or work.

 

The UK Government's National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) is a great pleace to find out more information from a reliable and reputable source.

 

Create and use secure passwords

There are lots of random password generators available to use online, for free. The problem with auto-generated passwords is that, while very secure, they are incredibly tricky to rememeber! One option is to use the 'three random words' approach that's explained in more detail on the NCSC website here.

 

Why is email security SO important?

How many of your online accounts are connected to your email? For example, your online shopping, groceries, pharmacy, social media, and more. If your email account is compromised by an attacker, they can simply use the 'password reset' function of any of your accounts to change the password which in turn will also compromise those accounts. It's a scary thought, but there's time to act!

 

The NCSC also has a 'Cyber Aware' scheme providing a whole wealth of information, tips, and tricks on staying safe and secure online. This is especially useful if you want to increase your email account security, as the website has a wealth of guides and explanations on how you can further secure your email account(s).
