If you want to reset your Windows computer to its factory settings, please follow these steps carefully. This process will remove all your personal files, settings, and installed applications, so make sure to back up any important data first. Black Owl cannot be held liable for any damage or data loss caused by using any part of (or in whole) this guide.

Step 1: Open Settings
Click on the Start menu (the Windows logo) in the bottom-left corner of your screen. Then, click on Settings (the gear icon).

Step 2: Go to Update & Security
In the Settings window, find and click on Update & Security. This option is usually located towards the bottom of the list.

Step 3: Select Recovery
On the left side of the Update & Security page, click on Recovery. This will take you to the recovery options for your PC.

Step 4: Start Resetting Your PC
Under the "Reset this PC" section, you will see a button that says Get started. Click on it to begin the reset process.

Step 5: Choose an Option
You will be given two options:

  • Keep my files: This will remove apps and settings but keep your personal files.
  • Remove everything: This will remove all personal files, apps, and settings.

Choose the option that best suits your needs. For a full factory reset, select Remove everything. This will irreversibly remove all of your data, documents, pictures, music, etc. from the device.

Step 6: Choose How to Reinstall Windows

You may be asked how you want to reinstall Windows:

  • Cloud download: This will download a fresh copy of Windows from Microsoft.
  • Local reinstall: This will use the files already on your PC.

Select the option you prefer. If you are facing issues with the Windows installation, you may want to choose 'Cloud download'. Please note that this will take some time, as it is dependant on your internet connection speed.

Step 7: Confirm Your Choices

This is the point of no return!

Review the information presented, and then click on the Reset button. Your computer will restart and begin the reset process. This may take some time, so please be patient.

Step 8: Set Up Windows
Once the reset is complete, your PC will restart and guide you through the initial setup process. Follow the prompts to set up your Windows account and preferences as required.

If you encounter any issues during the reset process or have any questions, please raise a support ticket, and we will be happy to assist you.
