Introduction

WooCommerce, a popular e-commerce platform for WordPress, allows you to manage and display your products easily. Sometimes, you might want to change the order in which your products appear to highlight certain items, manage inventory, or enhance user experience. This guide will walk you through the steps to do so without needing any technical expertise.

Step 1: Access Your WordPress Dashboard

  1. Log in to your WordPress site.
  2. Navigate to the Dashboard.
  3. Ensure you have WooCommerce installed and activated.

Step 2: Choose the Sorting Method

  1. Go to WooCommerce > Settings in your dashboard.
  2. Click on the Products tab.
  3. Select the Display sub-tab.
  4. Here, you will find a dropdown menu labelled Default Product Sorting. You can choose from several options:
    • Default sorting (custom ordering + name): This is a manual method combined with alphabetical order.
    • Popularity (sales): Sorts products based on sales.
    • Average rating: Sorts products based on their ratings.
    • Sort by most recent: Displays newer products first.
    • Sort by price (ascending or descending): Sorts products based on price.

Choose the one that best suits your needs and save changes.

Step 3: Manually Sort Products

If you selected "Default sorting (custom ordering + name)", you can manually rearrange products:

  1. Go to Products in your dashboard.
  2. Hover over a product and click Quick Edit.
  3. Change the Menu Order value. Lower numbers display first.
  4. Update to save changes.

Alternatively, you can drag and drop products:

  1. Go to Products > All Products.
  2. Click on Sorting (next to the “Add New” button).
  3. Drag and drop the products to rearrange their order.

Step 4: Use Categories for Better Organisation

  1. Go to Products > Categories.
  2. Assign your products to specific categories.
  3. You can then sort products within each category using the steps above.

Step 5: Preview Your Changes

Always preview your store after making changes to ensure everything looks as expected.
