While our platform automatically takes timeline backups of your site every day, we recommend that you also maintain your own backups. Should anything go wrong, you can always rely on yourself!

To work through this guide, you will also need access to ‘My Black Owl‘.

Should you wish to perform a manual backup on your own account, simply login to ‘My Black Owl‘ and navigate to the ‘Web Files’ section. Within this section, just click on ‘Backup / Restore’.

We recommend ticking both the ‘Files’ and ‘Databases’ options and then selecting ‘Create Backup’.

Depending on the size and complexity of your website that is hosted with us, this may take a number of minutes to run.

There are no notifications other than on the page to advise you once this has completed. Once this has completed you will be able to download this backup and save it somewhere securely on your own backup system. Again, depending on your broadband connection speed, this may take some time to complete. The files will be large, so please do not use a mobile cellular connection – unless you have unlimited mobile data.

Please be aware that the backup you have just downloaded contains all of your website data. It is strongly advised to keep this safe and secure, under lock and key!

If you are confused or concerned by running a ‘local backup’, please get in contact.
